Description: Akureyri is Iceland`s second largest city, located on the north coast. This is a lovely town in a beautiful location. It is situated at the head of the fjord, has a pleasant climate, tree-lined streets and a lively town center.The economy of Akureyri was for many years based on both fishing and agriculture and derivative industries. In recent years Akureyri has become an educational center for the north of Iceland with a relatively new university and two high schools.Akureyri has many museums among them three dedicated to famous Icelandic poets and authors.Akureyri has a lot to offer tourists and is a popular destination with its many restaurants, hotels, guest houses and recreational opportunities.
